At the beginning of May, Tavares Group Consulting kicked off a Mitacs-funded research project that tests the efficacy of the Sustainability Toolkit in managing supplier/customer sustainability requirements. Working with various partner organizations, interns from the Master’s of Environment and Sustainability (MES) program at Western University will identify the common issues that suppliers must address through their sustainability programs, and the type of reporting required to illustrate their progress.
The value of sustainability (e.g. competitive advantage, increased operational efficiencies and other cost savings) is widely recognized by organizations. Recently, stakeholder demands have resulted in organizations expanding the scope of sustainability management to include their supply chain, creating a need for sustainability supply chain management tools. The project, which is funded through a Mitacs Accelerate Cluster grant, is an innovative research study that investigates sustainability issues at different levels of the supply chain and demonstrates the value of a process-based approach to sustainability management. The Toolkit provides participating partner organizations with an efficient process to manage supplier sustainability requirements while the Western MES candidates receive hands-on experience in sustainability integration.
