Tavares Group Consulting Inc., on behalf of Staarsoft® Software, has proudly contributed to Fashion Takes Action (FTA), to help inspire 100,000 students to change the fashion system.

FTA is Canada’s only non-profit organization devoted to the advancement of sustainability in fashion. Tavares Group Consulting Inc. is a proud volunteer and sponsor of Gianluca’s Gift. 2017 – 2020 Softball Tournament proceeds have supported 360° Kids, whose mission is to help youth overcome crisis and transition to a state of safety and stability. Businesses and individuals who donate to the tournament support 360° Kids initiatives that include two residential homes and a daily drop-in centre, plus the vision for an additional residential home and healthcare vans so kids have regular access to medical attention, including prescription lenses and dental care—basic needs many kids take for granted. The 2017 tournament raised over $22,000 which will fund Gianluca’s Northern Camp Adventure for four years; 2018 – 2020 tournaments raised an additional $49,000. Gianluca loved the outdoors, and the camp program gives kids in the residential homes the chance to experience a three-day nature adventure. The 2017 – 2019 Gianluca’s Gift Galas, have raised over $60,000 to support the Character Community Foundation of York Region to run their Slap Shot Hockey Program which incorporates life lessons into a seven-week program designed for low-income and new-to-the-area students. The Gianluca Cellucci Memorial Award, given to a student who portrays positive character traits and selfless action, is also supported by the Gala.

In 2013, Tavares Group Consulting Inc. elected to contribute to the global community by donating to Enviro-Stewards’ Safe Water Project , an initiative that provides water purification systems throughout several regions in Africa. The funds donated by TGC were used to assist in the purchase of a three-wheeled motorcycle to provide the Juba purification system construction site with a means to transport completed systems to other communities. The unique filtration system designed by Enviro-Stewards enables the local communities to maintain the system and profit from the safe water produced, while providing local communities with access to safe drinking water. Tavares Group Consulting has supported the University of Western Ontario’s dynamic, interdisciplinary graduate programs in Environment & Sustainability since 2006, from reviewing the proposed program, to guest speaking and moderating the inaugural IDEAs  conference. The program uses project-based learning to enhance the graduate student’s skill set in preparation for a career in the environmental field. Students can pursue a collaborative thesis-based Masters or PhD degree program or a course-based Masters degree program in Environment and Sustainability (MES). TGC has also been supportive of student development from providing industry exposure and training opportunities to direct mentorship of MES students. Participation in such programs, demonstrates our dedication to the next generation of sustainability professionals. Annually, Sandra Tavares leads a Legislation and Certification Systems workshop for MES candidates, where the students hear guest speakers from a variety of organizations, and participate in facility tours, such as ones given to students at the Lake Huron Primary Water Supply System, Aisin Canada Inc., Firestone Textiles Company and others to see ISO 14001 in action.
