We are excited to announce that Tavares Group Consulting Inc. has been awarded a contract with The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) for a safety sustainability project aimed at developing an action plan and strategy for the integration of safety sustainability into the larger sustainability movement.
“It’s great to finally see safety formally addressed in the context of sustainability – namely environment, community, products and services and operating practices. We’re thrilled to be working with CSSE to assist their membership define sustainability within their own organisations and develop a proactive implementation strategy.”
– Sandra Tavares, Principal, Tavares Group Consulting Inc.
As the leading health, safety and environmental organization for professionals in Canada, CSSE works with industries and safety organizations in promoting awareness of health, safety and environmental issues in workplaces and communities. Since the first annual Business Leaders’ Summit held in September 2014, CSSE has expressed their desire to move forward with the recommendations of linking safety sustainability and the role of CSSE through strategic directions of continual renewal and implementation of cutting edge technology.
“The business leaders who attended the first Summit provided CSSE with clear recommendations on how the Society can support the efforts of our members in communicating the role of safety within sustainability. Sustainability has to be considered across economic, environmental and social sectors in order to be truly effective. The safety of an organization’s worker resources is a crucial piece to a truly sustainable company. Occupational health, safety and environmental professionals will help lead this inclusive approach in their own workplace.”
– Wayne Glover, Executive Director, CSSE
For the project, Tavares Group Consulting will be working alongside The Works Design Communication Ltd., an integrated design communications studio that specializes in multi-stakeholder engagement, internal/external corporate communications, and corporate social responsibility reporting.
“We are looking forward to partnering with Sandra and her team on this very worthwhile project. We will aim to bring our communications and engagement experience to the table, to ensure that CSSE’s members and the broader safety community will understand, support and have a key role to play in acting on the clear links between safety and sustainability.”
– Wesley Gee, Director of Sustainability, The Works Design Communications
Kicking off in mid-March, our team will begin with the development of a Safety Sustainability Business Case for CSSE’s use when reaching out to business leaders and supporting Canadian OHS practitioners on what is needed to influence a senior leadership team. Information gained will be integrated in the development of a Strategic Action Plan and Assessment Tool for the integration of safety sustainability, in addition to developing a communications action plan for CSSE members. The communications action plan will include proposed targeted communications tactics to inform, engage with, and gather feedback from CSSE’s stakeholders on the proposed strategies and action plans.
Tavares Group Consulting will be using the Sustainability Toolkit‘s implementation framework approach to meet the needs of the CSSE and achieve the objectives of the project. The Sustainability Toolkit’s 13-step approach to sustainability integration incorporates the concepts of social responsibility and has been built based on the management system’s Plan-Do-Check-Act approach.
Tavares Group Consulting is looking forward to working with The Works and The Canadian Society of Safety Engineering on this exciting project.
