Legislation and Certification Systems workshops

Sandra Tavares has lead the Legislation and Certification Systems workshops for the Master’s of Environmental and Sustainability (MES) program at Western University since 2009. This dynamic interdisciplinary program uses project-based learning to enhance graduate students’ skills in preparation for a career in the environmental and/or sustainability field. In addition to the course-based MES, students may also pursue a collaborative thesis-based Masters or PhD degree.

The annual Legislation and Certification Systems workshops provide students with an understanding of environmental compliance and the use of management systems as a tool to move beyond compliance into best practice. During the workshops students hear from guest speakers from a variety of organizations in different sectors, and participate in on-site facility tours, including the Lake Huron and Elgin Area Primary Waster Supply System, Aisin Canada Inc., Firestone Textiles Company, etc., where they can see management systems, such as ISO 14001, in action.
